Event Summary
The 1st International Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure and Built Environment (SIBE) was held on November 2nd-3rd, 2009 at Sasana Budaya Ganesa (SABUGA), Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia. Throughout the duration of the conference lectures and presentations were given by distinguished researchers, government officials and professionals.
Listed were a total of 315 participants from 26 different countries. This large number of participants enabled SIBE to accomplish its initial objective of providing a platform for exchange of ideas and information among academics, researchers, consultants, engineers, manufactures and post graduate scholars in civil and environmental engineering.
Plenary Sessions
Each day of the conference started with a plenary session attended by all participants in the main auditorium of SABUGA. Presenting the plenary lectures were distinguished speakers Ir. Bambang Goeritna Soekamto, MSc, MBA, (Special Staff of Indonesia’s Ministry of Public Work), Prof. Shunji Kanie (Hokkaido University), Dr. Tony Liu (National Taiwan University), Dr. Ir. Puti Farida Marzuki (Institut Teknologi Bandung) and Prof. Shunsuke Ikeda (AUN/SEED-net, Tokyo Institute of Technology). The content of the lectures varied, representing all fields of study covered in the Conference.
Parallel Sessions
Parallel sessions consisted of oral and poster presentation is eight subjects, Structural and Material, Transport System and Engineering, Water Engineering and Management, Waste Engineering and Management, Ocean Engineering, Construction Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Protection and Management. 202 presenters participated in these sessions.
Cultural Performance
Lights, camera, action! On the first night of the Conference, participants were invited to a dinner party at SABUGA and were treated to a performance by artists from Saung Mang Udjo, a traditional arts studio specializing in West Java culture. The audience also participated in playing “angklung”, dancing and singing along with the performers. Everyone attending brought home an “angklung” as a souvenir.
Special Meetings
At the end of the Conference, several special meetings took place. AUN/SEED-net Member Institution representative gathered to discuss their supported programs and future Regional Conferences. Meanwhile representatives of Institut Teknologi Bandung held a meeting along with representatives from Hokkaido University and National Taiwan University to discuss potential future endeavors together.
